Suicide Squad #8, I got your cover art solicitation right here! Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it.

“The Hunt for Harley Quinn” aftermath! As the surviving Squad members attempt to recover from their disastrous Gotham City mission, we learn a dark secret that has been festering in the team since issue #1: a traitor stalks the Suicide Squad! The saboteur’s mission: Assassinate Amanda Waller, expose the Squad and leave Task Force X in ruins! The fuse is lit to the first great mystery of 2012: Who is the Suicide Assassin?
This is hands down one of the coolest covers I've ever seen and certainly the best one this year so far. It really captures the whole feel of what the Suicide Squad is really all about. Notice how the scene is laid out in a circle pattern as if to suggest all the mistrust, betrayal, instability, mutual loathing and yet interdependency is what keeps it together even though it's the very same thing that threatens to tear it apart. All of which is a situation that keeps going round and round, hence the circle. Then there's the blood. It's all around them and in fact they almost seem to be emerging from it. It's just an all around beautiful cover from the stand point of being artistic with the metaphoric references as well as visually dynamic.

King Shark may not be featured on the cover of Suicide Squad #8 but at least I found some of this cool fan art of the DC relaunch hammerhead version of him. As far as I know this is a first of it's kind since all the other King Shark fan art I ever come across is of him as a great white. I also think this is the first fan art I've seen from the Suicide Squad relaunch that wasn't Harley Quinn related. This rendering (done from start to finish in photoshop) is by talented illustrator Walter Ostile. As you can see he has a very distinctive style which in and of it's self goes a long way to making your mark in the art world. 1. I love the fact that Harley looks like she's having the best time of her life right smack in the middle. I'm not surprised that most of the fan art circles around her. She's cute, has awesome colors to play with, and can go from adorable to insane in less time than it takes her to wink.

    1. and she's still wearing my favorite outfit, wink ;) all that's missing from that cover is for her to be saying to them all. "Why so serious?".

    2. I think that's what I like about that picture too, she looks like she's having a blast even at gun and knife point. She's gone from sidekick to full-fledged badass.

    3. well put Craig. she's still the same psycho badass funny one liners chick that she was before which is why all this bitching about her outfit really gets on my nerves.

  2. Outstanding cover an even better description and a new banner that says....out with the old,
or this is the new guard. either way I like it.

    1. thanks OA1. i figured since the Suicide Squad managed to dodge the first round DC relaunch title cuts that we can probably count on at least another 5 or 6 months of this book coming out. and i thought that warranted a new masthead. plus i think at this point we may have some idea who the regulars on The Squad are going to be. i suspect DC will make an evaluation about every 5 months or so for a while now as to which titles they will retain and those they will discontinue.

    2. Yeah man good it made the cut or missed the cut and it does seem like these are the core members. It would have been good to see some of the old guard but it is what it is. At some point some where I heard there was talk of a suicide squad video game and a suicide squad movie. Do you know anything?

  3. i'm not a gamer so i'm probably the wrong person to ask about that. but as far as a live action movie goes i've heard rumors on the internet for a couple of years now. i wouldn't hold my breath for that if i were you.
but we can probably expect to see more Amanda Waller on the big screen and if we're lucky some members of The Squad turn up in a future episode of Young Justice.

  4. David, there is no Harkness in your Banner!
    I'm still hoping he returns.
I'm not holding my breath on a Suicide Squad movie either :( Although I would have loved and spend my little money on it.
    It would rock for sure!
On the other hand, what's the good of putting Waller on the big screan if there won't be a Suicide Squad Movie?
    With Boomerang... of course.
