Ok guys, Adam Glass (video) in his own words about some of the Suicide Squad relaunch controversy

So my friends, here is the face behind the controversy. For about the first 10 minutes of this 18 minute interview Glass talks about the Squad relaunch in which he covers a hand full of aspects of the the title including Waller's weight loss, Harley's new direction (along with the hook up with Deadshot), the renaming of Kobra into Bisalisk and other things to come. Unfortunately, there's no mention of any other Squad members from the Ostrander series making future appearances (FUCK!) during the interview.

  1. I think I pegged this guy pretty well. He's doing the Squad from a Glass grounded view. I understand why Basalisk isn't Kobra and I am going to stay tuned as long as the book is good.

    1. Completely agree with you OmegaAgent1. The guy seems to know what he is doing. And as he said, even though Waller and Harley don't look the same, the essence of their chars IS there.

As i said before, i am not a fan of most redesigns, but that doesn't mean i haven't picked up this series, on the contrary. I like the SS for what it is... and even though it has a new coat of paint... the SS is still there...

      Can't wait for next issue!

  2. thanks for the comments guys. you both pretty much by now know how i feel about the whole thing. specifically about the renaming of Kobra i'm still having a hard time with even saying Bisalisk. i had found about a half dozen Kobra issues from the 70's plus a couple of Outsiders issues that featured Kobra in one dollar bins years before i started reading Suicide Squad or Checkmate. when i'm looking at a DC title and read "Kobra" i don't at all think of G.I.Joe's Cobra.
i'm not bothered at all about Harley's costume or her banging Deadshot. it took a little getting used to but i'm ok with Waller's Jennifer Hudson (HOT!) conversion. i don't like Deadshot's new costume or that they made Kingshark into a hammer head. but those are basically small issues to me the Bisalisk name probably bothers me more then the before mentioned. Glass has done some good writing on this book but lately i find my self missing some of the old school Squad (even as rebooted versions).

  3. Hey briefly read through his interview. I don't know Glass well enough to hate on him, but I can't say I'm all that impressed by the book so far though either. I admire the fact that he's trying to keep the spirit of the old series going, working with the shitty hand DC's given him and all. Still this one just isn't my cup of tea, and likely won't be until Simone, Ostrander ,or some other capable writer, like maybe Rucka or Brubaker take over.

As for the whole Kobra/Cobra thing, I kind of have to agree with Glass on this one. Yes Kobra with a K has been around longer, but most fans probably do associate the word cobra with GI Joe. I know I do, but that's because that's my generation/what I grew up with as kid.
I'm not too crazy about the new name though, but what other snake name can you give as a substitute to Kobra?
The Serpent Society's already been taken so, Basilisk it is I guess. Who knows, maybe he just needs to fins his groove. Not like there's another option unless you guys want to start writing your own fan-fiction....which wouldn't that bad of thing actually.

    1. thanks for giving Rucka a well deserved shout out in general he doesn't get the credit he is due. speaking objectively, i think Glass is a good writer i just don't like everything he's doing with this book. we'll see how it goes as the series goes on.

  4. Just my two cents :)
I like Basislisk's name. It is strong and full of sophistication. I didn't associated it at all to Kobra until readding comments in here.
For me the problem with Kobra had nothing to do with GI Joe and all to do with Marvel, which I've been readding all my life toghether with DC.
Basilisk, for me, seems to stand for it self, and the first issues with it were strong enough to impose respect. Plus they have the B man, so I'm eager to see more :)
