Now that's a splash page x 2

I just saw Superman yesterday. I thought it was cast really well especially in the case of Superman, Gen. Zod, Jor-El and the Kents. And I gotta say I loved all the flash back scenes to Clark's child hood in some ways that was my favorite aspect of the movie. I'm still "digesting" everything else from the movie but over all I liked it for the most part.

Anyways, seeing the movie yesterday got me thinking about Superman's appearances in the Suicide Squad. As far as I know it was in issues 59-62 that featured a storyline involving Batman, Aquaman, The Squad, The Hayoth, several metahuman mercenaries, a high value arab terrorist and some rogue elements in the U.S. military. Plus on top of that it was all connected to the faked death of the original Atom Ray Palmer.
I guess this might be a good time to throw this clip art into the mix too. I'm not really familiar with the Seraph character actually. But I like how his powers are derived from ancient Jewish lore. Ok I don't think I need to explain to you about Moses (pronounced Moishe in Hebrew) and his divine rod right? : )  King Solomon "The Wise" was actually the son of King David (as in David and Goliath) and you may find it interesting to know that Captain Marvel (Shazam) derives his wisdom from Solomon just as he gets his strength from Hercules. And by Samson he is referring to the story of Samson & Delilah which you all know something about yes? Well just so you know Samson was Jewish and Delilah was a Philistine.

  1. Ha ha, divine rod. Man we sure have all been stuck on dick jokes this huh? I blame myself, but only partially since you crazy mofo's(you, Random, Tiger) took the dick joke ball and ran with it.

    On a separate note, I actually sat down and read the NUDCU Suicide Squad#21. It's not bad. Honest. The art is awesome, and the prospect of Harley(someone finally remembered Quinn used to be a shrink) and James Gordon Jr facing off was pretty cool. This team from this point on, seems promising for a change. And no, I'm not planning on suddenly exploding from the inside out anytime soon;)
    Sure it isn't, and will never be like the old series, but Kot so far(and not so much his first issue granted) seems to finally be tryin to show us a Squad that's comparable.

  2. Heh. I love Batman's battle banter. "No." Classic Bat. Everyone who studies their history knows Moses had the biggest baddest rod. But what I loved about all those old heroes was how their creators drew upon the old stories and histories to imbue their creations with a sense of weight. Superman has definite ties to Moses himself. A man raised apart from his people sent to deliver others to a better life. Obviously others were more literal in their translation but it always dragged you in. You knew what they were talking about. And it gave the hero a root in the collective imagination.
    @Dale, you started it. :P

    1. Yes ma'am, this is true character creation to me, when the character has that history. When the character comes from something and it gives him or her a real sense of purpose good or bad. Random you are so on it!

    2. I always loved that about comics, OA. It made me feel even more connected. And let me use all that "useless" greek and ancient mythology knowledge. Not to mention the stuff I learned in church. Or even just reading out of my Dad's library, which was extensive. Little did I know I was learning about connecting the past with the present before I could understand what that meant. But that's the good way to go about it, I think. And I thank my Dad for it every chance I get. And for his library. Which I still steal from.

    3. gosh girl, you really hit home with this. I have books, specific books I want my guys to read and build from. The oldest rather we talk about things that's my baby girl so I'm good with that, the middle he kinda does his reading his own way and depends to much on the internet and the youngest wont read shit unless John Madden is talking. I want to throw a book and hit him in the head with it.

      How does this relate to comics? I don't know. You just made me want to talk :)
