Although I pride this blog on featuring a multitude of new stuff instead of reused clip art I once in a while like to feature something from the original that I'm sure most out there don't remember or never knew about in the first place. I've used stuff for postings before from Suicide Squad 32. This was really a great issue for so many reasons. First off it's the Ostrander series and second of all the issue was so true to life in terms of contemporary politics and cultural trends in the Middle East which I consider myself something of an expert in. You can almost tell what's going on by just looking at the faces of the characters from one panel to another. GREAT STUFF!

Yeah, I love the look on BT's face while the Captain is chuckling in the background. That's frakking priceless.
ReplyDeleteI love it when comics accurately relate the current state of world affairs. I think it's a great way to look back and see what was going on.
This is one of the things that made Ostrander's run great. It felt like the real thing sprinkled into Hero television. And this is a perfect panel.
Deletehey i just noticed something as i was updating this posting this morning. what happened to BT's hair in the last two panels on that Suicide Squad clip art?
ReplyDeleteBad lighting? Run with that. It's less embarrassing than admitting Captain Boomerang shaved it all off between panels.
DeleteThat's a great scene from Checkmate. Very very powerful. It's nice to be reminded how truly crazy people are always crazy at their core for the dumbest reasons.
ReplyDeleteExactly. "Sigh", it's a shame the big two aren't brave and bold anymore to put out socially/politically relevant comics anymore like this one was. As the old saying goes, "It was much better before you were born."
ReplyDeleteWho is knight one and where is knight one right now?
ReplyDeletedamned if i know, if you're talking about the New 52. i heard Checkmate was in the Omac book that got cancelled but from what little bit i saw it was nothing like what i remember in either series of the old DCU. i have no fucken idea what's going on with Checkmate now, if anything is going on with it at all. i'm sure the rebooted Checkmate sucks just like everything else in the new DCU. i think Suicide Squad #21 comes out in a couple days that'll at least be something new to talk shit about.
