Well it's about time! Never thought I'd ever come across any Suicide Squad specific fan art from the John Ostrander era. Not to mention it's good too, I rather like the . . .details. This one comes to us from a U.K. artist that goes by the deviant art handle adamantis.

Here's something else I found on deviant art by an artist who goes by the handle SketchMcDrawpants. First off it's an excellent drawing. But I would imagine most of you don't know or remember much the Karen Grace character who died early on in the series during the whole Millennium Manhunter DC story line in the late 80s. We meet her in the first issue and right away we learn she and Rick Flag have some past history as both team mates and lovers that left her bitter and resentful with him. Just what the Squad needs right? Later in the series we learn she had a child that Rick only later finds out he fathered. We later see in the 2008 Suicide Squad mini-series Rick struggling with the question of his responsibilities for a son he didn't even know about. He however opted to leave "his son" in the care of others who could care for him better.

'I rather like the... details' Ben? Ha! Your getting more English by the day.
ReplyDeletewell you English blokes do have a gift for the understatement. I especially like your euphemisms like when it comes to murder . . or foul play as you put it. as if we're talking about a red card or something, cracks me up.
DeleteLashina all the way - easily the best female on the team (at least when Vixen's not around). Good to see fan-art of her too.
ReplyDeleteLashina yeah. Really good fan art though, and I did not know Karen and Rick had a kid together. Poor Rick:(
ReplyDeleteyeah probably only people who followed the Suicide Squad series pretty closely would remember her or that Rick had a kid with her. as for the Lashina/Duchess fan art yeah I hear ya. over all it was nice having some Squad stuff from the Ostrander era to post again. for months now all I ever see as far as new fan art is of either the WWII Suicide Squad or from the New 52 it's like people seem to have forgotten about the Ostrander Squad. it's fucken irritating i'm even getting to the point where i'm getting burnt out on Harley.
DeleteYeah, especially considering how he's still quietly writing the occasional DC comic, most recently Aquaman Annual#2. Plus you have Marv Wolfman on Superboy now, and I'm wondering if DC did that because the sales sucked and they figured they use a known name on a book, or if they were trying to attempt to rebuild some of their tainted public image by throwing the fans/longtime fans a bone by hiring some of the beloved old guard. Probably the latter, but shit, work's work in this economy am I right?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the old guard, yesterday I bought a bunch of old DC back issues, including the Ostrander-written JLA mini/maxi-series, JLA:Incarnations. I didn't pick it up the first time because I wasn't exactly in love with the artistic stylings of Val Semeicks, but after reading a review by our mutual friend Gary over @ Crisis on Earth Prime(Hey Gary!) I picked up the only issues my store had; #2 and #5, with #2 being the one he recently reviewed. It's really, really good stuff that still holds up today.
As for Harley, yeah she's played out, or rather the NU52 Harley's played out. The classic one we all grew to love will never go out of style.
Hope you're doing okay Shlomo, with work and all.
i'm not familiar with that JLA series, I take it you got all that DC stuff on the stuff? i'm doing ok it's kind of a mix bag i'm at something of a turning point work wise i'm going to have some challenges ahead of me.
ReplyDeleteI got em on the cheap if that's what you mean good sir;)
ReplyDeleteTurning point huh? Hope it's a good turning point, that leads to continued gainful employment. Still working on that ship or doing something else now?
still on that ship, but i need to get on more ships. it's like most other industries you can only move up if you put your time in.
DeleteDuchess vs Lashina? What, I want em both. Duchess in the daytime and Lashina at night. Or a combination of both personas. Duchess+Lashina = Big Barta or Wonder Woman. Can't go wrong either way. Either way.
