Impel trading cards series: Task Force X part 2 of 4

Old school Suicide Squad fans have had to endure a lot of disappointment lately with the new DCU so I thought something from the good ol days might makes us all feel a bit better. You all of course remember the classic Legends mini-series of the late 80s. This series marks the first mission of Ostrander's Task Force X as they are charged with the task of taking down Darkseid's destructive fiery juggernaut known as Brimstone. They're mission was a success but it came at the cost of team member Blockbuster ending up as dead as fried chicken. As you know he would be the first of many in the coming years.

As far as I know there were only two Impel cards made as a tribute to the Legends series. The other doesn't have any members of  Task Force X but I'm glad that this other one featured here has Bronze Tiger "representin". Next up I'll be featuring a unique character I doubt most of you are very familiar with so be back here again in a couple of days.

  1. See I never had/bought the Legends mini, but I had that exact trading card though. I did sorta stumble onto the "War of the Gods" mini, and the SS had somewhat of a good role there, except for maybe Javelin humorously being impaled by his own javelin. ha ha! Wasn't this around the same time that Poison Ivy was on the team, or was that earlier? War of the Gods came out in 1990, so maybe I'm close, but off.

    1. yeah i used to have that War of the Gods issue too. SUICIDE SQUAD #58 (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Suicide_Squad_Vol_1_58) was a direct lead up to it. Poison Ivy wasn't officially part of the team at that time but was in that SS issue and would end up being on the team again for it's last mission in issues 64-66. if you have the time i'd recommend taking a look at the link at the bottom of the posting before this one. the Javelin name has been used by more then one guy. Deadshot shot killed one in his 2nd mini-series by shooting one of his explosive javelins before he got a chance to throw it. in Checkmate #6 or 7 (Vol. 2) another guy named Javelin gets killed when a jeep hits him during an ambush.

    2. I dig the digital flames on the Byrne art.

Say Shlomo, if I hooked you up with the art, would you want to run the Giffen Suicide Squad profile page from Secret Files & Origins as part of a multi-blog crossover on the 28th?

    3. are you just trying to butter me up with that compliment so that i'll agree to feature something here from the 2nd SS series? i'll tell ya what Frank, why don't you send what you got over and i'll take a look at it and let you know? just in case you don't have my email address still it's in the right hand column with the "Obamanized" CCH Pounder head shot.

  4. You'd have to be a fool to pick up the name Javelin and put on a super suit. And thanks man, Legends brings back all kinds of good memories.

I luv the card with the Tiger, never seen that one before. With the Young Justice series, we see alot of things from Legends and that era like G. Gordon Godfrey (from Apocalypse). I been praying for Task Force X to make an appearance next.
