So what you're looking at is my DC Comics haul from the discount boxes. And as you can see I finally was able to find Justice League Task Force 5 and 6 featuring the REAL Bronze Tiger. For just a buck each but it gets even better. The Rise of Arsenal #3 (already have 1,3 and 4) and that KOBRA one shot for just 25 cents each! I haven't read that KOBRA one shot yet but at a glance it's full of action between the KOBRA cult and Checkmate and even has the JLA guest starring in it.
And there was even more cool stuff there but that part of it all I uploaded to Youtube for your viewing pleasure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFlxl0ij-qE&feature=youtu.be
Quick Question, Ben. When did you start reading SS? Back in the John Ostrander run? Plus have you ever picked up any old Task Force X reprints from the wartime era?
ReplyDeletea friend of mine had picked up Suicide Squad #1 back when it first came out in 87 because that was the time where every body thought all first issues were gonna let you retire early some day. he showed it to me and i though it was pretty cool so i got a copy for myself. then i got the second issue which i really enjoyed it was a really nice combination of good character development and action from cover to cover. but i think it was # 3 that really sold me on the series. before all that i had never even heard of The Suicide Squad/Task Force X so know i never really read any of the war time era stuff other then the flash backs that were featured in the Ostrander stuff. i met one guy at the con who actually liked the Squad reboot but to no surprise he never read the Ostrander series.
DeleteI thought so, Ben. Same as me. Yet I did know of the wartime SS beforehand. They weren't bad comics really. Very of it's time. And in some way goes to show that nothing ever stays the same.
Deletewell after all Ostrander described his Suicide Squad as being a cross between The Dirty Dozen and Mission Impossible.
DeleteThat red headed one looks familiar, I think I've seen her around before. And wow, you got a great haul from the discount bins. Which are the best place to hang out at cons. All the cool people looking for back issues.
ReplyDeleteSomething about those dollar comics, you just seem to appreciate them more.
Oh, and I said this already, but I want that R2D2. That's amazing.
Justice League Task Force is one of the best team collaborations ever. Martial arts strategy (Bruce Wayne), Martial arts power (Bronze Tiger), martial arts finesse (Green Arrow), and martial arts meta (gypsy). Great illustration and concept (story should have been better) but still one of the prize pieces in my collection.
ReplyDeleteAnd dude thankx for the eye candy. Rogue is just adorable. I would want to run over and take a snapshot with her. Never been to a large con so I don't know if Rogue would choke me and steal all the Agents power or not. So I'd settle for a "Hey Rogue, say cheese" and keep it moving.
Random, both the Red Sonja and Power Girl models were pros each had their own table with large scale prints for sale of their various cosplay characters.
ReplyDeleteTiger OA1, your very welcome i hope you get a chance to go to a large con some day it's something every comic book/sci-fi nerd should do at least once in their life time.
Shlomo, are you from the Bay Area? I'm not there now but my hometown is Santa Clara.
Deleteindeed i am. if you remember where San Leandro and Hayward are then you pretty much know what part of the East Bay i'm in. thanks for visiting by the way as you can see i do plenty of DC trash talkn over here too.
