Did you know that Nightshade, Peacemaker, Sergeant Steele, Blue Beetle, Judo Master, Captain Atom and The Question were all originally characters from another publishing company that no longer exists called Charlton Comics? Most of you probably did know that already but for the few who don't I thought you might have found that interesting. DC at some point bought the rights to the characters and integrated them into the DC Universe.
Nightshade pretty much became synonymous with both Captain Atom (the DC title of course) and The Suicide Squad. Peacemaker and Sergeant Steele made multiple appearances in both the Suicide Squad and Checkmate (both volumes). So I'm diggin Peacemaker re-design concept but I'm also looking to get some feed back on it from you good people. If you need a quick reference to his costume design as it was in the old DCU: http://suicidesquadtaskforcex.blogspot.com/2012/06/impel-trading-cards-series-task-force-x_21.html
Peacmaker re-design concept by Joe Singleton
Did you know that the Charlton Heroes were going to be used by Alan Moore in Watchmen, Ben? But DC turned him down, he changed them up a bit, and come up with Silver Spectre (Nightshade), Dr Manhattan (Captain Atom), Own Man (Blue Beetle), etc, etc.
ReplyDeleteyes i did know a little something about although i didn't have those details you just provided. you can find all these Charlton characters and Watchmen comparisons on the net. thanks for stopping by but you should have started off your comment by saying "i got this one" : )
DeleteHow about now... I got this one. Ha!
ReplyDeleteJoe Singleton did a nice redesign, it just doesn't say Peacemaker. The old helmet is to big and clunky but it is the key element and trademark of the character. So it needs to be jazzed up but shrunk down.
ReplyDeleteThe color scheme is all wrong as well. The colors work good together, they are tough and grounded and speaks to control. Where we know Peacemaker is over the top out of control when it comes to excessive force. Blue gloves and boots are a must. This is a very good drawing, however the helmet and color scheme needs to go back to the lab.
This is not a diss just constructive commenting.
i wouldn't worry too much about your constructive criticism i doubt Mr. Signleton follows this blog. so in just a couple days Suicide Squad #20 comes out but it doesn't look promising from the previews so far. i've pretty much got a posting on stand by ready to trash the new writer and DC. but i'll hold off till i see the issue i need to visit my local comic shop that day anyways.
