Deadshot, vampire hunter

Left click to enlarge
I came across this art work on Deviant Art recently that was described as New DC 52 Deadshot redesign. I thought it was cool at a glance but after looking at it a bit more carefully there was something familiar about it. And then it hit me the redesign is based on Blade's costume. Even the gun Deadshot is totting is an exact replica of Blade's. But it's all good I love the first Blade movie and this redesign is an obvious improvement from Deadshot's current look but I doubt DC would go for using it for obvious reason. I feel much the same way about The Squad reboot and DC in general as Blade did about vampires.

As if the rebooted Bronze Tiger wasn't bad enough . . .

  1. This is a major improvement from the current Deadshot uniform. But the copy and paste method to character creation is not what's up.

Blade's whole look, style and powers have been copied so much it's pitiful. Every vampire you see these days is a daywalker.

With a perfect combination of sklls, powers, weapons, vehicles and overall character look Marvel still can't keep him a book on a team or on TV. What does that say?

    1. and then there was The Blade series on Spike TV that ended after it's first season on a cliff hangar no less. i didn't like it much at first but the writing started to improve greatly about half way through the season.

    2. I didn't like the Spike TV version at all. It was like McDonalds forgetting that first and for most they specialize in hamburgers.

In the third Blade movie they forgot that their vampire hunter could tell who a vampire was by the way they move. Whistler died aaagain and on top of that they threw in the WWF, comedy central, hack and slash and a fake Dracula.

So the facts remain the same. After the first 2 movies Marvel continues to drop the ball when it comes to Blade. At the very least they're hit and miss cause the Blade animated movie is all that. But I give that credit to Japanese Anime.

Blade in the Ultimate series was perfection. But for some reason just couldn't transfer over to the main marvel universe. Is consistency to much to ask for?

  2. That Vertigo is for real? Seriously do we need a 70's hypno wheel on his chest? I know Grant Morrison gets to do his Multiversity range of books soon, maybe we can also get a fifth week of 'old DC' books. I know that would help send a sign. Maybe not one that was listened to but it will still be a sign.

    1. "hypno wheel" that's a good one Dan i think this rebooted Vertigo sketch is based on an Austin Powers movie villain concept reject.

    2. Or spell binder from Batman Beyond. The hypno wheel is lame. They got some other lame ones too, emperor penguin really? That fifth week would be my return to Wednesdays.

  3. I'm probably the only person that isn't immediately disgusted by the "NU" vertigo, and that's cool. Hey, at this stage in the game, most of your favorites that haven't shown up yet are more than likely going to be revamped, and revamped hard, visuals and everything.

So while I prefer the old look, this new one isn't all that bad. Hey, at least he hasn't been turned into a giant vertigo-causing machine or animal like poor BT has:(

That's a nice look for that Deadshot, another character not doing too good lately. I will say things are getting interesting on the new SS side, only because characters like DS and harley know they're being brought back to life against their wills, over and over again. Not even the old series had that as an overall plot device.

anybody else think what they did to poor King Shark was both fucked up and funny?

Oh, and I'll go ahead and plug it, I highly recommend picking up Geoff Johhs' last GL issue. Yes the price is 7.99, so feel free to complain, but it's worth it. The endings he gives t those characters fit, and feel right. Trust me, they are indeed all happy endings for the main GL cast.

    1. thanks for the tip Dale but speaking for myself i think the Suicide Squad keeps going further down hill with every issue and as far as new comics go both DC and Marvel don't get my money any more. it's pretty much the same as encouraging bad behavior.

    2. I actually don't dislike the new Vertigo look. Explaining: I didn't really like the old Count Dracula reminiscent look.
Just because he is European, it doesn't mean we don't have a fashion sense behond the Victorian era.
So while I won't say that's nice, the new look certainly is less musty. I wonder if he is even european at all now :/

    3. One of the last titles I'm still readding is GL corps, so I did buy the last GL. That is the best they are still doing.
      It was great.

    4. well to me the new Vertigo looks like a drug addict. as for you Europeans i know the Victorian look is old news i know what's going on over there. pretty much everything i know about Europe today comes from the movie Bruno : )

    5. What is the movie Bruno? :D

  4. True, true. and again, that's why my old standbys are back-issues and new indie titles. I recommend giving Valiant a try, as well as Boom Studios and Dynamite Comics. They both have name, franchise titles/characters, but w/0 that pesky continuity that seems to give writers from the big two such headaches, and omg the characterization!

  5. I don't hate the new vertigo. But I have to admit, if I were predisposed to hating him, I might suggest he looked like he was a few decades late for a try out on Laugh In.

    Just saying.
