These photos are large files so don't forget to magnify them. . . . . . . . . ok now that I have your attention please proceed to the next part of this posting. . . .
There is something wrong with this scene. Unfortunately there's nothing I can really say about the clip art here that won't give it away or make it easy for you all to find the answer. The art work you see here is from an issue of Checkmate ( Vol. 1) during the aftermath of a major assault on Belle Reve prison (Task Force X HQ) during the Janus Directive.
All I can say is that there is something out of place here in these panels. All I can say is that I hope Al Sharpton doesn't see it cause if so DC Comics might be getting a call from a NAACP lawyer. It's really easy to over look even for people who are familiar with the Suicide Squad comic book series from back in the day. I had this issue myself for quite a while before it hit me one day while browsing through it. I'll give you all a few days to figure it out.
Okay mates since ya did such bang up job with the first trivia clip art here's another one I'm adding to this posting tonight. Which one o you droobs can tell me what movie Captain Boomerang is talkn about? It just so happens that I found this Brightest Day issue in a 3 for $1 box today in San Fran-bleedn-sisco.
the Janus Directive scared her the black off her and made her blonde!
ReplyDeletehi Jeffrywith1e welcome to the blog. for the time being let's if anyone else out there wants to take a stab at this.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm thinking Flo was black, too.
ReplyDeleteWeird thing is, Flo's definitely black in Suicide Squad #3 from July 87... but in her first appearance in Suicide Squad #1 she's clearly white.
ReplyDeleteSaying that, in neither appearance is she a blonde!
well i guess it's pretty obvious now what the problem is now with those panels. Flo Crawly is Amanda Waller's niece and indeed is black and by no means a blond.
ReplyDeletehowever, Gary made an excellent observation about SS#1 that even i never picked up on. i'm looking at her now in the issue and i wouldn't say she looks white exactly but not entirely black either.
however i think it's safe to say that the production team screwed up in that Checkmate issue. we know for a fact Flo's mother (Waller's older sister) is black and even if she had married a white guy Flo wouldn't look like she does as shown in those panels.
thanks for the comments guys maybe i should add another trivia to this posting?
The film? Way, way, waaaaaaaaaay too easy!
ReplyDeleteIt is, of course, Shawshank Redemption.
crickey! got it in one mate.
ReplyDeletetrivia aside guys, nobody has anything to say about the lovely ladies gracing the top half of this posting?
I was about to answer, but Gary beat me to it!
ReplyDeleteIt is one of the best movies of all times.
indeed it is and it was pretty clever how Geoff Johns worked it into that conversation between Flash and Boomerang.
ReplyDeleteoh look Aliera, a fellow Portuguese speaker just showed up on my followers list say hello to PassandoRegua from Brazil!
by the way Jeffrywith1e i just realized you've been with this blog for a while now it's just that this must be the first time you've left a comment. good to finally hear from you.
I loved that bit about the film. I love it when I get pop culture references in comic books now. I never used to get them reading my dad's back issues and always had to ask. And sometimes he wouldn't tell me. So now I feel much more in the loop.
ReplyDeleteyeah that's one of the things i loved about the recent Heroes for Hire title i had been picking up. in one issue Spiderman and Misty Knight were making Star Wars quips while fighting some bad guys. really funny shit made for some entertaining reading. it sucks cause the series just got cancelled as of issue 11 which came out a couple of weeks ago but Misty & the H4H agency is supposed to be continued in the Spider Island story line.
ReplyDeleteI was really digging heroes for hire. I'm sad it didn't pick.
