Young Justice episode Salvage - More Awesomeness!

As of this weekend's episode of YJ I feel like I'm finally getting more of a grip on the future tense story line. But that's not to say it hasn't been good and with no shortage of surprises such as Aqualad having turned into Black Manta's evil protege. It's just taking some getting used to but with the Roy Harper clone back in the picture it's starting to get really interesting. It so blows me away how this side kick archer character has become such a compelling character to follow.
He's like watching some kind of horrific traffic accident in slow motion. Tragic as it is you feel forced to keep watching as you hope for the best but bracing for the worst as far as how it's going to end up. Don't you just love the bangs and 5 o'clock shadow he's sporting in this episode? I think the 5 o'clock shadow is now the universal bench mark indicator for when someone is officially a burn out.
Needless to say the Roy Harper clone is once again wrestling with all sorts of issues I'm not going to go into in this posting cause it would take forever to write about and I spend too much time as it is on these blogs. Just go to Youtube and watch the episode! I talk so much about YJ I outta just make this a Suicide Squad-Young Justice blog.

Unfortunately I only have a few comic book issues today that have Roy Harper a.k.a Speedy. Two of which are Suicide Squad 13 and 14 in which Roy helps the Squad take down a Colombian drug cartel. As you can see from the clip art it seems that it's been decades now that Roy has been the "glass is half empty" kinda guy. But you all know that already of course. I gotta tell ya folks it scares me sometimes how much I can relate to his character. I mean I never had his drug problems but tell me his cynical outlook on life isn't a sign of the times when you see things like this shitty economy, the Wall Street Occupy Movement and even the Tea Party?

Speaking of drugs, anybody out there remember or have this one shot special from the early 80's. Back when I was in 3rd grade numerous copies of these were being distributed around grade school campuses including mine. I remember thinking how cool it was that my school was actually giving my friends and I free comic books.
This was part of the Nancy Reagan "Just say No to Drugs" campaign. Drugs had been around for decades prior to the 80's of course but it seems like it was around that time that the "War on Drugs" came into the forefront of the American conscience. This was also around the time that the HIV virus (aids) emerged as a real public national health issue. Prior to that it had largely been thought of as a "gay problem" but among other things learning that it was also being spread by intravenous drug users helped to change that kind of thinking. By the way folks, Dan from IADW apparently doesn't watch YJ because of some attention deficit disorder I can't sit still long enough kind of bullocks. Please give him some shit in the comments section! The episode links are below.

  1. I saw the new ep.of Young Justice and Roy is in pretty bad shape. I like the direction you went in with cynical thought.

"Poisoning of the food and water disease engineering and control over your life".

    1. yeah this episode also had a lot of good one liners. many of them came from Blue Beetle who I'm starting to like more with each episode.

  2. I am going to be honest. When i first saw Young Justice i thought it was ok... but it was no Justice League Unlimited. I am a huge JLU fan... some of my favorite episodes would be "Taskforce X"(of course) and "Patriot Act"...

But i must admit... halfway though season one, Young Justice has become better and better to the point i am completely hooked. Season 2 is really good right now. I like how everyone "evolved" and how the story is getting shape.

    Great show... great post!

    1. yeah i liked JLU a lot too and i've blogged about those episodes you mentioned. i actually discovered Young Justice on the internet first through other people's blogs and started watching it on Youtube. but i was into it from the very beginning. i've been hoping that Thundercats could evolve to being something close to what YJ is but the producers of that show seem to be dead set on gearing it toward a pre-teen audience. the animation on the show is great but it otherwise basically sucks.

  3. I agree on as well on how awesome YJ has become. I started watching a few episodes in, and I remember Goo mentioning the show to me, so I checked it and am now hopelessly hooked as well. Hell, I find more entertaining than the GL show that comes on before it, and I'm a GL guy! I was surprised how fast everything's moving though. Roy's still a clone but is also married to Cheshire and has little Lian by her, just like in the comics. That was fun to see. DC Comics, take note. And by the by, If we're supposed to swallow the new DCU52 crap, why follow the past DC comics stories such as Roy having a kid w/Cheshire if it's no longer in continuity? Doesn't make sense. It seems like an unofficial admittance that the previous universe's stories were better than the shit they're putting out now. They could just be me but I digress.....
Loved, loved this episode and where the series is going so far.

Anyone else immediately think when clone Roy kept the money and was explaining that he needed it, that it was because he was buying drugs? Ha ha! That was my 1st thought, but since it's a kid's show, they had to say he needed the money to find the real Roy. Funny.

Finally, now that we know one of the two men talking is Sportsmaster, now I really want to know who the other one is. From the sound of the dialogue, I'm going to guess Deathstroke. He's just the kind of guy to talk like that. Could be just me.

Ben,don't feel bad about talking this show up man. Just do it. Hell, you, me, and Omega should make our own min-YJ blog just for shits and giggles.

And Dan, shame on you brother. I don't always like sitting still for shows either, but this one is worth it.

    1. i've always understood that movie or TV adaptations of comic book titles don't have to 100% adhere to the book series. remember a comic book is something you go buy to read where as TV and movies are viewed by a more general audience and in which years of that titles history has to some how be condensed in a way that makes some sense for everybody. so the whole 52 discontinuity with the old DCU that YJ is obviously based off of doesn't bother me. besides, that's another thing i loved about this episode was that Chesire finally showed up and with their kid no less.
yeah i also wanna know who Spaortsmaster was talking to. by the way i also really like how this future tense Superboy is more mature and seems to have taken on more of a leadership role on the team. if i had the time i would seriously consider Dale doing some sort of collaboration YJ blog but like i said in the posting i spend too much time as it is with the two blogs i have. it's all good we can have plenty of fun talking YJ on our already existing blogs.
yeah shame on you Dan. i heard Dale has an upcoming action figure skit where he has me putting my balls on your forehead while you're passed out with him taken pictures to post on the internet :)

  4. Ha ha! Well, it looks like Shlomo Ben's mouth has written a check I'm going to have to now cash huh? Real subtle there Ben:)

If anything, it just gives me an excuse to use more of that crazy Aussie slang, so what the hell. Consider it a future project done in one.

Oh hell he's gonna' be pissed at us Ben:)

  5. I agree with Dale about the appearance of Lian (Roy's+Chessire's kid) but it kind of makes me nervous. I mean... i love the fact that they are getting closer to the comic but do you guys remember what happened to Lian? T_T...

If they are going that direction i would admire the show for being mature enought to "show" or "implied" that... what i mean is that i hope that if they put a character like Lian they are considering the consecuences and try to make it as close as the comic as posible.

On other subject... even though i love Deathstroke and i think it would be a nice addition to YJ. I really doubt it was him... here's the clue...

When talking to Sportsmaster... i THINK i heard this "mystery man" call Sportsmaster "MEAT". Meaning it has to be a "artificial" villain... Having this into consideration and the way the "mystery man" talks (cold, strategic, smart)...

I THINK it MIGHT be Brainiac. That's my bet anyway ^^

    Cheers

  6. patience my friends. the answers are coming.

  7. -Hey Rasdel, good guess man. I didn't even think of him. I guess it makes sense to be Brainiac based of those scenes, but why would someone of Brainaic's caliber hang around with a c-lister like Sportsmaster? Isn't that kind of beneath him?

Also, yeah I hope Lian doesn't get killed off later down the road. Implied or not.
Like Shlomo says, we'll have to wait and see.....

  8. me too Dale. I thought for sure YJ was going to follow the junkie Speedy storyline. Not entirely convinced they won't touch upon it either. What a great show that's turned into. I'm also not sure if Aqualad hasn't been sent into deep cover by the JL to uncover the members of the Light.
