So what's new pussy cat?

Well I just found out that issue 20 of the Suicide Squad which comes out May 8 will be debuting two new members to the Squad. Now I will tell you this, who they bring on board will either start to rebuild my confidence that this might actually be a title worth picking up again or it will further erode my interest in it. Is Ales Kot gonna start giving us some of the original Squad members or is it gonna be more of the same that we got with Glass? I don't think we can assume too much from the Cheetah at Belle Reve preview clip art just yet.
Also, are we ever gonna find out what the Hell King Shark is? Is he an experiment, a mutant or something supernatural? It was never a big issue to me but after 19 issues you think they could have let us in on the big secret there. And so ends the Adam Glass inspired suck fest in Suicide Squad#19

Just posting this as a reminder that this week's Suicide Squad #19 was the last issue written by Adam Glass. I remember when I first announced I was dropping this series after #10 and how some of the readers of the title that were still hanging on urged me to stick with it for a while longer. Even Glass himself paid a visit to this blog and promised me that good things were just around the corner for this title and to hang in there.
And in a sense there was some truth to that with the reappearance of Captain Boomerang in issue #12. Well in case anybody hasn't noticed other then a flash back sequence in #16 we haven't seen Captain Boomerang since the opening pages of #14. That means Captain Boomerang has basically been absent in the pages of the Suicide Squad for the last 5 issues! WTF!? And true to form Glass's final issue ends on yet another uninspiring note of predictable or other wise uninteresting "plot twists" and banter between characters that I hardly care about anymore. The new writer for the series Ales Kot has been quoted as saying "Alternately, we will build off the original, still magnificent Suicide Squad run by John Ostrander and Luke McDonnell and co. while also remembering what happened in the recent run and playing with the threads in a fashion that will be inviting to new readers and rewarding to those already on board. Simultaneously honoring the old and bringing in the new."

I sure hope so cuz Glass sure didn't go with that formula! He really seems to have had some kind of aversion to using old school Squad characters outside of Deadshot.

Suicide Squad #17: I need to take a piss again

I was just reading the usual humorously arsenic review of the latest Suicide Squad issue at the tessatechaitea blog and I just have to ask, why are you still buying this book? I cannot find anything of any interest in the writing. I mean seriously do you find it terribly compelling to find out that Regulus is not dead or that the latest villain (Red Orchid) the Squad is after is Yo-Yo's sister? 
I'm well aware that I've turned away some former followers of this blog with my incessant New DC 52 and Adam Glass bashing and that's ok. I'm especially dismayed at how anyone who was a fan of the John Ostrander series can be into this book. I can't help but feel there's some kind of cognitive dissidence much like Star Wars fans who took weeks or months to come to terms with the fact that the phantom menace was a steaming pile of shit.  http://tessatechaitea.blogspot.com/2013/02/suicide-squad-17.html

Just a heads up last week's episode "The Hunt" (which was awesome) is now on Youtube along with the episode for week the before "Complications" (also awesome). Trust me, folks aside from possibly Red Hood and The Outlaws, Young Justice is the only thing from DC worth following these days. Enjoy watching the new episodes while they last.

Amanda Waller's Team 7, a somewhat positive posting for a change about the DC 52

So here's something about the DC 52 I find somewhat intriguing. A bit later this year as far as I can tell a series of zero issues are coming out. Among them is gonna be one for the Suicide Squad and another related title called Team 7. Now the interesting thing about Team 7 is that it was about some sort of black ops team that among others included Amanda Waller, Steve Trevor and Slade Wilson. At some point some really bad shit went down with the team and that some how ties into the origins of  The Suicide Squad. It's too early to say if I might pick these up but I have to admit I'm a bit intrigued with the basic premise here. Not to mention the cover art rocks! In fact I just wanted to say that of all the shitty things about the new Suicide Squad title I've been lambasting the art work is not among them. That's been the one thing about the series I've been consistently happy with. But it takes more then good art work to make a comic book series enjoyable much like how it takes more then elaborate special effects to make a good movie. Take Starshit Troopers for example. Great special effects and fight scenes but a completely stupid premise and unbelievably cliche characters. Speaking of the space troopers theme is it just me or does Team 7 have a bit of an Alien Legion look to em?

I thought I might share with you all my messages to Adam Glass on Facebook in the last month or so. In case it's not obvious here he never replied. In all fairness I can't really blame him for not replying if I were Adam Glass I wouldn't wanna talk to me either : )
