Young Justice "True Colors", just the episode I've been waiting for!

Last week's episode (Cornered) was good, but today's episode is more what I've been waiting for. In True Colors we finally get to see Arsenal in action and the introduction of a Martian version of Blue Beetle. The episode had some snappy dialogue and plenty of action as most of the YJ team along with the "Green Beetle" Martian take on the futuristic evil Blue Beetle that's proven so far to being all but invincible since being introduced into the series. And certainly no less important the story line of the eventual showdown between Sportsmaster/Cheshire and Black Manta/Kalderon finally starts moving along and I can't wait to see how that goes. Although just a fairly brief appearance so far we also get to see Deathstroke and it looks like he'll be gunning for Sportsmaster.
If you're not watching this show you're missing out big time it's the only thing from DC these days that's worth following especially since you're not paying $2.99 or $3.99 for it. I'm sure in the next day or two True Colors will start turning up on Youtube. I can't say much for this weekend's DC shorts however. Lance Armstrong . .er I mean Bane looked pretty ridiculous when he was juiced up on his venom. And huh, sorry Dale but Amethyst was way to kiddy friendly for my taste it reminds me of the Teen Titans cartoon.

As you can see he's called Black Manta for a reason.

I'm making an update to this posting in light of a return trip from a new comic shop I discovered not far from where I live. Of all the comic shops in the San Francisco Bay Area (and there's plenty here) I've never come across one that had discount back issues for only 25 cents! And most of it was some pretty good stuff like this issue of Justice League of America #15 (2008) which features some Suicide Squad clip art I've seen on the internet for a couple of years now but could never figure out exactly where it came from. Aside from that it was an all around kick ass issue that featured a big time throw down between The JLA and Lex Luther's Legion of Doom.

  1. Black Manta don't be offended, some people just don't know any better and can't truely understand the being of the Black Manta (or at least the revolutionary in my mind).

the Blue Beetle is becoming a favorite of mine. Jaime Reyes is handling himself rather well. Roy is back in action and is probably gonna cause some probrems for the team. Anger and spite are not a good combination.

It seems Young Justice can't miss. I don't know if it'll last but right now it's a good ride.

    1. i agree when it comes to Blue Beetle, and i also enjoy the friendship bond that he and Impulse have formed. Robin really shined in this episode as well as a mission leader and it seems Nightwing has basically taken on the role as being a mentor to the team when Batman isn't around. just an all around great show i really wish Thundercats had used YJ as a model to writing an animated show properly.

  2. Hey, no offense taken there Shlomo. I still prefer this version and set=up of the Amethyst character vs. the current rebooted version of her. Is the animation to kiddish? Well yeah, and maybe it could benefit from the same string animation as YJ, but I think the basic concept here just seems more kid and tween-friendly.

I just wish they'd hurry up and finish up the Sword of the Atom mini-shorts. I've been jonesing for more of those, but his brief cameo in YJ was good enough for know.

This week's episode was really good, better than last week's, too me, and so much development as well. Plus the return of Arsenal. Very well-handled, as real Roy would be an angsty, frustrated "team" player. If he's continuing to be used this way, I'm all for it, but they need to resolve things a bit more on his end story-wise though. Where's the clone roy?

Both GL and YJ were solid this week, except for the shorts.

    1. Yeah, they do need to wrap some things up. I wanted clone Roy to become Arsenal and the real Roy to take over as Speedy. Why? Everyone has grown up, Dick is now Nightwing. It's time for the rest of the senior members to get new monikers. With real Roy being Arsenal where is clone Roy going to go with a name?

  3. Dale, the closest i ever got to reading Amethyst even in the old DCU was from the house ads in the 80s. as for the rebooted version i'd be totally lost there. but like i said before i like more sophisticated animation shows as opposed to the ones that are geared toward the more adolescent audience. Marvel got off to a good start in the 80s and at the beginning of the 90s but after regressed with garbage shows. as far as DC they got it right with Justice League Unlimited but then fucked up with Teen Titans and Batman:Brave & Bold. but for what it's worth i thought GL this week wasn't bad the writing seems to be improving.
to both you guys, given that the original Roy was missing an arm you know it's a given that he will take the Arsenal mantel but that doesn't mean the Roy clone can't or won't make his mark on the team. as Aqualad said in an earlier episode "we have no quota on archers".

  4. Red Arrow. I thought about what I said about clone Roy not having a name to go to. Speedy can become Red Arrow:(

Batman the Brave and the Bold was geared to the adult crowd. It was a throw back to the 60s. Campy silver age comedy for adults but still kid friendly. For me they just got to silly, I couldn't hang.

And I want to see Amethyst's arch villain, Dark Opal and the conclussion to the sword of the Adom in the DC shorts.

  5. Red Arrow's as a good a name as any really. I would not be surprised of that happens. Or, the writers might surprise us all and kill of the clone Roy. After all, while having Roy and his clone around is good drama, eventually there has to be a resolution, and I'm thinking bye, bye clone Roy then.

  7. Young justice is a good show....but lets get back to what this tumblr/blog is all about ..task force x...the suicide squad...this new series started off good (my opinion) then drifted alittle ..but you can not say that this last issue isn't a start of something good to come....maybe I'm bias cause I'm a die hard deadshot fan ...cause if he was in the Archie comics or in a new on going series in twinkie and ho ho adds id still read it..but I think they are on the right track now

    1. thanks for visiting, i also liked the series initially. but after the 4th issue things started to happen along with a trend in the direction the writing was going in i didn't care for at all. i gave up on the series after issue 10 and not that long ago got rid of them altogether. i'm afraid i haven't seen anything in the series since then that's prompted me to want to pick it up again.
