And so ends the Adam Glass inspired suck fest in Suicide Squad#19

Just posting this as a reminder that this week's Suicide Squad #19 was the last issue written by Adam Glass. I remember when I first announced I was dropping this series after #10 and how some of the readers of the title that were still hanging on urged me to stick with it for a while longer. Even Glass himself paid a visit to this blog and promised me that good things were just around the corner for this title and to hang in there.
And in a sense there was some truth to that with the reappearance of Captain Boomerang in issue #12. Well in case anybody hasn't noticed other then a flash back sequence in #16 we haven't seen Captain Boomerang since the opening pages of #14. That means Captain Boomerang has basically been absent in the pages of the Suicide Squad for the last 5 issues! WTF!? And true to form Glass's final issue ends on yet another uninspiring note of predictable or other wise uninteresting "plot twists" and banter between characters that I hardly care about anymore. See what I mean: http://tessatechaitea.blogspot.com/2013/04/suicide-squad-19.html

The new writer for the series Ales Kot has been quoted as saying "Alternately, we will build off the original, still magnificent Suicide Squad run by John Ostrander and Luke McDonnell and co. while also remembering what happened in the recent run and playing with the threads in a fashion that will be inviting to new readers and rewarding to those already on board. Simultaneously honoring the old and bringing in the new."

I sure hope so cuz Glass sure didn't go with that formula! He really seems to have had some kind of aversion to using old school Squad characters outside of Deadshot.

  1. Here's hoping you enjoy the new writer's stuff more than the last; for my own 2 cents, I've bought both trades so far and, while it didn't set my world on fire, I've enjoyed them.

    1. only time will tell if the new team can unfuck the waist of paper that has been the 19 issues so far. and if they can it's unlikely they can do it in an issue or two.

  2. Perfect panel, I use to love the war room exchanges. As much as I cared for the old series I hope the new one is reinvisioned.

    1. Agreed, were on the same page. I want the Squad to grow and mature into something more. Much more than what Adam just gave us.

  3. I can almost feel bad for Glass, except that he did take a bunch of characters and just toss them on a page and call it Suicide Squad. In a way, I could see revising the series, but unless you at least pay RESPECTFUL lip service to the original, you might as well write a different, new book, with a different title.
And if you're going to have a squad of "heroes" or "anti-heroes" at least make us care about them. You have to be invested. If you're not, like Shlomo said, it's a waste of paper.

    1. Could not have said it better.

Your girl She Ra is back in Eternia and she's an agent of Hordak. I almost bought the book just so I could have a conversation with ya. The art work looks real good. Hope the story can match it.

    2. That's always the trick these days, isn't it? Lots of great art, little story.
I haven't looked it up yet, but I'm thinking its going on my list of things to splurge on when I have the opportunity.

  4. Oh, in the war room you could always tell who didn't belong (The lame duck). Cronos looks sooo out of place. Flagg could have just as easily been talking to him.

    1. yeah he was only in issue#4 and it was pretty brief too. but he served his purpose for that mission which also happens to be the first issue of the series that tackled dicey matter of race relations.
